We’ve had a great first week of 2024. We started the week at Stanmore with a Happy New Year assembly where we looked at New Year customs and traditions, and learned how to use Makaton to say “Happy New Year!”
We also sang happy birthday to our staff member, Erica, who celebrated her 65th birthday yesterday. In class we have been looking at how we measure time and we have set the scene for our whole school topic beginning next week, where we will be working on gaining the Explorer level of the Heritage Hero Award.
This will involve us in being time travellers, looking back at the history of our school. We will be looking at the who, why, when and what questions around the old Stanmore building.
Our research will include interviewing current staff members who have worked here for over 40 years, searching through old photos and information, and inviting retired staff members to be interviewed by us. We aim to have a showcase of our work in February, where we will also receive our Heritage Hero Certificates. To get us into time traveller mode, the senior class are visiting the historic site of New Lanark today.
