Eilish

Eilish is 14 and moved to Stanmore in January 2025, where she lives within the residential service and attends Stanmore House School.

Eilish is joyful and sociable and consistently demonstrates a positive and engaging personality. She frequently smiles, laughs, and encourages others. She enjoys movement-based expression, often stamping, marching, dancing, and twirling.

Eilish is highly motivated by sensory and music-based activities. Her preferred activities include: singing, music, and dancing, cause-and-effect toys and interactive programmes (particularly musical). She enjoys sensory experiences such as ribbons and textures, wearing gloves, interacting with hand puppets and playing with soft toys.

Since arriving at Stanmore School, Eilish has developed warm and trusting relationships with both peers and staff. She is physically able and can move around independently.

Eilish has a supportive and loving family network. Her dad maintains regular contact through visits, which Eilish enjoys and benefits from in maintaining family connection and emotional wellbeing.

Eilish demonstrates emerging communication skills. She can vocalise in familiar contexts, such as repeating parts of children’s songs, reciting days of the week and using occasional single words. These vocalisations typically occur spontaneously and in her own time. Her primary methods of communication include gestures, giggling and vocal expression. Eilish can also use some Makaton signs and she often seeks physical connection with familiar adults.

Eilish is in Orange Class, working within the Broad General Education (BGE) at Foundation Milestones. Her education is delivered through interdisciplinary, play-based and experiential activities. She benefits from a range of wider achievement opportunities. She has recently achieved White Level JASS Award and is working towards Reading Schools Silver and Rights Respecting Schools Gold Award.

Eilish works with the onsite Occupational Therapist with the aim of removing barriers that prevent her from engaging in Instrumental Activities of Daily Living. During these sessions Eilish has been working towards increasing her independence in Activities of Daily Living including personal care and self-care tasks, developing skills to become as independent as possible. Since joining Stanmore Eilish has made notable progress in concentration, attention and communication levels which has positively impacted her educational progress.

She is also seen by the onsite Speech and Language Therapist who’s been targeting Eilish’s engagement with others through Intensive Interaction, as well as motivating toys and activities.

There has been a very good progress in Eilish’s social engagement since joining Stanmore as well as in her communication skills and attention, which in turn has had a positive impact on her engagement in class.
